Rating: ★★★
Crown Jwlz is an American singer/songwriter. After travelling around the Philippines for a month, she returned to her native Los Angeles to record her first ever independent EP. Eliciting a six piece band called 'The Royal Court'. Crown Jwlz was ready to conquer the world.
Opening track is 'Calfornia King' a rock and roll starter to the EP. Setting out her ambition to rule and be 'California King'. The underlying message is about positivity and achieving your goals. 'Party Past the Sunrise' is a fun loving track. Showcasing her extraordinary vocals and party-esque style.
Free is a mellow number. It shows tribute to musical icon David Bowie - namechecking a few of his famous hits. Also pays tribute to the freedom of the decade and being young and wild. Track Four is Stay. There's a glimmer of Madonna in Crown Jwls voice in this track. It's like a really rocky Madonna track. It also features an impressive guitar solo too.
Slow down track Make It Back reflects Crown's struggles in the music industry and finding herself. It has traces of a slow ballad of Lady Gaga. Similar to Speechless with the piano. Contrast to Make It Back, penultimate, Without U is another rock chick hit for Crown Jwlz and is all about breaking up and feeling good about it. Closing the EP is Cool. This track has similar themes to the previous song as it's all about reflecting back on a relationship.
All in all it is a good effort for Crown Jwlz's first EP. You can follow her on Twitter, Facebook and listen to her on Spotify.
