Album Review: The Dollyrots - Family Vacation (Live in the Los Angeles)

Rating: ★★★★
US pop-punk duo, The Dollyrots have released a live album from their gig in Los Angles showing the world how incredible they are live. It was taken from their 2015 tour with Bowling for Soup. The 11 track album is full to the brim with pop punk goodness. Kick starting 'Family Vacation' is My Best Friend's Hot. The raw sound of the amps at the start give this live version an atmosphere of being there. Kick Me to the Curb is next which is the debut single of the band and is 12 years old.

Their cover of Melanie's 1970's hit Brand New Key brings the folk country of the original hit and puts The Dollyrots pop punk spin on it's head. It also shows the amazing vocals of lead singer Kelly Ogden. Get Weird has a No Doubt-esque feel to the track. It is similar to No Doubt's Spiderwebs and Settle Down.

Satellite is one of their more rockier tracks on the album. It's a rocky love songs about reminiscing on their love. Anthemic, Bury Me in Ireland has the crowd going wild and clapping throughout. The guitar riff in the middle 8 is incredible. The band can put on one hell of a show. Come and Get It and Jackie Chan follow. Jackie Chan has the iconic riff in the beginning. This track has a real feel of Joan Jett and The Runaways. The band were actually signed under Jett's label before The Dollyrots made their own label.

Catchy number Twist Me to the Left and Starting over Again are next. Standing over Again shows the angst of their Pop Punk sound simlar to the sounds of blink 182. Because I'm Awesome closes the set and album. It brings this incredible and awesome to an epic end.

The band have recently set up a PledgeMusic page to support their sixth album which you can help them with here. Also big congratulations to the duo as they are expecting Dollytot number 2 in November. You can keep up to date with them on Twitter, Facebook and listen to them on Spotify.
